In celebration of the Appalachian Trail's seventy-fifth anniversary in 2012, this 332-page hard-cover Appalachian Trail Conservancy book documents in text and photos the history, beauty, and significance of America's most iconic hiking trail. With fascinating essays on topics ranging from the trail's history to the day-by-day hiking experience, this book is perfect for anyone interested in conservation, outdoor recreation, or American history, and for all those who have hiked all or part of the A.T.

Winner of a 2013 National Outdoor Book Award and named 2012 Book of the Year in "Adult Nonfiction/Nature" by Foreword Reviews.

The Appalachian Trail: Celebrating America’s Hiking Trail explores the legendary footpath in detail, with a foreword by Bill Bryson and filled with more than 300 spectacular contemporary images, as well as unpublished historical photos, documents, and maps from the ATC archives.

A pocket inside the back cover contains a full-sized copy of the official National Park Service map of the entire Appalachian Trail. (Unfolded maps available separately.)

Anyway you look at it. The Trail comes through. Iconic pics that you might have missed taking but are burnt on your brain can be found here. Good book for the AT trail junky.

This will be a Christmas Gift for my daughter. For my 70th birthday she took me backpacking fifteen miles of the AT. There were stretches that were tough on mom but I did it and I had that feeling of accomplishment that I know the ones that finish feel! I’ve always called it God’s Country and seeing it from the top of Roan Mountain was breathtaking. The book is beautiful and so well thought out and written. I intend to purchase one for myself. Job well done!!

Have bought 3 copies so far. 1 for me and 2 for friends. Excellent book to learn the history in print section and then visualize it from end to end with the magnificent pictures from all 14 states. Highly recommend.

Beautiful pictures. This is a wonderful way for this 83 year old arthritic granny to revisit the beautiful places I hiked and to groan in frustration that I can no longer hike the other places I would like to hike. But what a superb book - one I will go over again and again!
