Guide to Great North Mountain Trails covers over 40 hikes of the Lee Ranger District, George Washington and Jefferson national forests in Virginia and West Virginia. The Great North Mountain is a narrow range of parallel ridges approximately 50 miles in length. These mountain ridges are generally taller than the Massanutten Mountains to the east, so that views to the east often stretch over the Massanutten and on to Shenandoah National park on the Blue Ridge. Views to the west reach out over a sea of mountain ridges into the Alleghenies. This guide offers a variety of hiking experiences, including backpacking and dayhiking circuits.
